Avoid mouse arm and tension headaches

After the summer holidays, many people return to their office chairs – and unfortunately also to the typical screen-related discomforts: tension headaches, mouse arm and stiff neck/shoulders.

We often sit in front of the computer for too long with hunched shoulders, our heads slightly forward, and repetitive movements with the mouse and keyboard. The result? A body that gives out – typically with pain and tension in the upper body, arms, and head.

At the Health & Sports Clinic, we offer targeted treatment for office-related pain, including trigger point massage and neck/shoulder treatment.

What are mouse arm and tension headaches?

Mouse elbow (also known as tennis elbow, overuse or RSI) often occurs as a result of one-sided movements and poor ergonomics. Symptoms vary but may include:

Tenderness and pain in the forearm, wrist, and elbow

Discomfort when using a mouse or keyboard

Tingling sensations in the fingers

Radiation to the shoulder and neck

Tension headaches typically start as a feeling of pressure in the back of the head, temples, or around the forehead. They are usually caused by muscle tension in the neck and shoulders, often caused by sedentary work, poor posture, and stress.

Why do these problems arise – and why now?

When we work in front of a screen for a long time, this often happens:

The shoulders are lifted slightly without us noticing it

The head is pushed forward (to “get closer”)

We strain our forearm and hand when using the mouse and keyboard.

We forget to move and breathe deeply.

After the holiday, the body may not be fully used to the strain – and pain can therefore occur quickly, even if you are “just sitting still”.

How can we help you?

At the Health & Sports Clinic in Lyngby, we work with conscious and targeted treatment of the tension and pain that arise after many hours at the computer.

Trigger point treatment

Trigger points are small, tender knots in the muscles that often refer pain to other parts of the body. A trigger point in the shoulder can, for example, cause pain in the arm or a headache behind the eye.

By finding and treating these points with specific pressure and massage techniques, we can:

Release stuck muscles

Reduce pain radiation

Restore blood flow and mobility

Provide immediate relief

Trigger point therapy is ideal if you:

Have tension headaches

Have pain in the arm/shoulder (mouse arm)

Feeling soreness in the neck that doesn't go away on its own

Neck and shoulder massage

We often combine trigger point treatment with deep neck/shoulder massage that:

Releases superficial and deep tensions

Creates calm in the nervous system

Provides a feeling of relief and increased mobility

Improves your posture and breathing

The treatment is always tailored to your body – we never work harder than it can handle. For some, a single treatment is enough to notice a difference, while others benefit from a course of several weeks.

3 good tips to prevent annoyances in everyday life

Change positions regularly
– Get up every half hour and do small movements.
