The researchers found that massage treatments were associated with reduced anxiety, lower levels of cortisol, and increased serotonin and dopamine in people with depression.

However, it is important to note that more research is needed to determine how effective massage therapy actually is for depression. Massage should not be considered a substitute for standard treatments for depression, such as therapy or medication. Nevertheless, it can be a valuable addition to an overall treatment plan and can help relieve stress and improve mood.
